Speaker: Will Galkin - What is the Gospel? People have all sorts of different ways to answer this question. Some would say, “It’s the way that God gets people out of hell.” Others might respond nostalgically, “Doesn’t the Gospel have something to do with Jesus dying or something?” Maybe others would approach it from a social sense, “The gospel is what the oppressed need to overcome hardship.“ Still others might think of it from a moralistic perspective, “Because of the example of Jesus I too can do more good than bad.” Literally the Gospel (εὐαγγέλιον) means “Good News.” Romans 1:16 communicates the effect Gospel is “the power of God for salvation.“ The core message of the Gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day. The Gospel is Good News! But sometimes, if one doesn’t understand the whole story –the “Good News” is just news. In Romans 1-4 the Apostle Paul gives us the full context so that we can rightly answer the question “What is the Gospel?” He communicates: the Gospel is the “Good News” that God has made a way for sinful man to turn from their sin and enjoy a relationship with Him through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
