Passage: Isaiah 53:1-6 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Easter at Gospel Grace

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In preparation for our Easter services, we begin a series through Isaiah 53. This chapter is one of Isaiah’s four servant songs, and in this section we see the unarguable, incontrovertible proof that God is the author of Scripture, and Jesus is the fulfillment of messianic prophecy. The details prophesied in this passage are so minute that no human could have predicted them by accident and no impostor fulfilled them by cunning. Clearly we see the Messiah Jesus, as the NT attests. Isaiah explains how this Messiah Jesus blesses rebellious people: all the promises of God will come true for them, because the suffering and triumphant servant can remove their guilt before God by his perfect sacrifice. The pronoun “I” in this passage is typically the Lord, “He” is the Messiah Jesus, and “we” is the servant’s disciples, who themselves need the servant to bear their guilt. The fact is, Jesus died for us.  He took the punishment for sin that we deserved.  He bore our griefs, pains, and sorrows so that we wouldn’t have to. Repent of your sins and believe the Gospel!
