Passage: Genesis 16 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: By Faith

Length: 56 mins 38 secs Plays: 3008

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The narrative in (Genesis 16) is the first in a series of stories that portray the tension over the delay of the promise. The covenant ceremony of (Genesis 15:9-21) was impressive, but now years have passed and Sarai still has no son. Abram is 85 years old and Sarai is 75. With very little information and very little time left, Abram and Sarai longed for the fulfillment of God’s promise. What is God waiting for? What should Abram and Sarai do? In the last three chapters, Abram has been a tower of faith, but it is hard to stay that way when God seems silent and inactive. Today we will see how Abram deals with the pressure of waiting and how God responds when Abram takes things into his own hands. Ultimately, we’ll find that human assistance to the fulfillment of divine promises only complicate the matter. But when we are faithless, God remains faithful – He cannot deny himself! Praise be to God.
