Speaker: Lukus Counterman -The priests of Israel had three major responsibilities. They were supposed to offer incense and prayers for the people. They were supposed to facilitate offerings and sacrifices. And finally, the priests were supposed to faithfully teach God’s truth. Well, in Malachi 1, we discovered how the spiritual leaders were failing to facilitate authentic worship. They condoned Israel’s wearisome attitude towards temple responsibilities and looked the other way when lame, blind, and diseased offerings were brought before the Lord. Now in Malachi 2, we are going to see the priests were also failing to heed God’s word and teach it to the people. Instead of instructing Israel in God’s truth, they were leading people into sin. So, God cautions spiritual leaders, clarifies his expectations, and condemns those who persist in rebellion. May the Lord help us consider our own expressions of spiritual leadership. And may we be people who listen to truth and share it rightly with others.
