Define, Remind, and Protect the Covenant Community

August 15, 2021

Passage: Deuteronomy 23:1-25 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Relationship & Responsibility - Deuteronomy

Length: 1 hr 2 mins 21 secs Plays: 237

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - We are at a point in our study of Deuteronomy where Moses is providing what some commentators call “Miscellaneous Laws.” They seem to be somewhat disconnected regulations for life in the promised land. Addressing varied issues from prostitution and interest rates to vows and asylum, God’s people were supposed to live in ways that reflected God’s character. Yet the question remains, why did God give these seemingly random laws? Well, as we will discover this week, God wanted to define his people, remind them of his presence, and protect them from harmful things inside and outside the community. May the Lord teach us as we study Deuteronomy 23 together.
