Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Different cultures may express worship with different stylistic nuances; however, culture never determines what is acceptable to God. Deuteronomy 12 explains the kind of worship that pleases the Lord. You see, Israel’s situation was changing, and they were about to enter a land where pagan worship and diverse cultic practices abounded. But God wanted his people to be grounded in the type of worship that pleased him – the sort that was characterized by purity, unity, and felicity. When it comes to worship, God makes the rules; culture is not permitted to determine what is good and right. So, as we gather as a congregation, may the Lord teach us to worship in spirit and in truth.
