Speaker: Lukus Counterman - This morning, as we prepare for Easter, we continue our series through Isaiah 53. In verses 7-9, we will continue to focus our attention on Jesus. Let’s consider the Messiah who came to earth, this One who left such an indelible mark on human history. Why did His life and death matter so much to so many? Who was this Jewish carpenter that died on a Judean hill some 2000 years ago, and what is it about Him that still makes 6 out of 10 Americans get out of bed and go to church on Easter Sunday? Who is this one called Jesus? As we seek to answer that question, we draw our attention to a text of Scripture that was written some 700 years before Jesus was even born. The text we will examine this morning was penned by the prophet Isaiah, and Isaiah tells us to behold a “servant.” This servant is Jesus, and He serves His people by humbling laying down His life as their sacrifice. Today, God’s word will show us that suffering sacrifice and why it is significant for all of us. Do you know this Servant? Will you allow Him to serve you by sacrificing His life in place of yours?
