Passage: Exodus 20:3 Speaker: Pastor Will Galkin Series: Ten Commandments
Speaker: Will Galkin - Many times when we hear the word “commandment” we think restriction and interference. Questions like, “Do I have to?” “What if I don’t want to?” “Says who?” come to mind. Mankind does not have a natural disposition to submit to others. Our DNA screams for independence and self-autonomy. We want to be in control. But imagine a world without restraint or law. Violence, mayhem and anarchy would be the way of the land. Confusion, chaos and corruption would stymie the gears of progress. As creator, God knows how His creation works best. He knows that His “image bearers” are most happy and satisfied when they are making the Creator their ultimate joy. That is why God has given mankind 10 commandments to better help them know how to love God and those that live around them. For the next few months we will be taking one commandment a week and explaining how that we are “Set free to live free.” This morning we will cover the first commandment as found in Exodus 20:3. You shall have no other gods before me.
