Passage: Genesis 15 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: By Faith
Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Genesis 15 consists of two divine encounters involving dialogue between the Lord and Abram (15:1-6 and 15:7-21). Each portion includes an amazing image symbolizing God’s power and promise. The first occurs at night (15:5) and involves a vision (15:1) about Abram’s promised offspring. God tells Abram to look up at the sky and number the stars if he can, “So shall your offspring be,” God promises. The second encounter occurs at sundown (15:12) while Abram is in a deep sleep (15:12) and involves Abram’s promised land. God commands Abram to take a heifer, a goat, a ram, a turtledove, and a pigeon and cut all but the birds in half. Then the Lord appears as a smoking fire pot and a torch and passes between the carcasses sealing a covenant with Abram that his offspring would receive the promised land.
