Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The passage we will consider this morning reveals to us a series of testimonies supplementary to that of John the Baptist. These testimonies are arranged such that several people serve as witnesses assigning to Jesus various titles of dignity. Andrew names him the Messiah, Philip describes him as the Fulfiller of the law and prophets. Nathanael acclaims him as the Son of God and King of Israel. The passage moves toward a climax in which Jesus speaks of himself as the Son of Man and ladder to heaven. These various titles and testimonies are written so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, we might have life in his name.
