This morning, we return back to our study through the book of Genesis. Even after a warning the size of a world-wide flood, mankind still spurned God’s commands and rebelled against his created designs. It turns out that humanity was no better after the deluge than they were before. In today’s text, the sons of Adam think they know what’s best for their lives. Instead of scattering and filling the earth with the image of God, they decide to converge on the plains of Shinar. They plan to build a tower and a city that will magnify their name. They even think that such a project will exalt them to the place of God. The irony is that what men most desired would have destroyed them, and what they most dreaded would prove to be part of their deliverance. The Lord would prevent the unbridled unification of godless society and instead He would separate nations across the face of the earth...but not without a guiding light of hope and salvation.
