The Temple Cleansing

Passage: John 2:13-22 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: John - That You May Believe

Length: 42 mins 14 secs Plays: 1935

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The gospel account moves from a wedding in Cana to the temple in Jerusalem at Passover. The careful description of Jesus at the wedding feast with the imagery of purification and celebration now confront the reader as they watch him enter the temple. While he was willing to maintain his “guest” status at the wedding, Jesus was not willing to remain a guest at the temple, his Father’s house. All of this is set in the context of revealing his glory and restoring the Father’s honor. Jesus cleanses the temple and predicts its supersession with his own crucified and resurrected body. Jesus would be the new temple, the new meeting point between God and man. May the Lord help us to recognize the eclipsing glory of Christ manifested in this text.
