Passage: Genesis 9:18-28 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Beginning - Genesis 1-12

Length: 52 mins 3 secs Plays: 3081

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - In Genesis 9:18-29 we encounter a strange story about Noah.  It’s a story that could give us a jaded opinion of him.  Up until this point, what we know of the man is that he’s been obedient, faithful, and he’s found favor in the eyes of the Lord.  But in chapter nine something goes wrong.  Noah ends up drunk and naked, his son proves to be perverted, and Canaan winds up being cursed. Finding Noah in a bad light almost shocks us.  Isn’t this the man that was characterized as “righteous” and “blameless?”  Isn’t this the man that “walked with God?”  What happened to him?  Well, a lot of things drowned in the flood, but sin didn’t.  It stowed away on the ark deep in the hearts of Noah and his family.  So even in a new earth there was still the same old humanity.  Sin was rising to the surface and it was tainting even the last days of Noah’s life. So when sin bubbles up in society we shouldn’t be surprised, instead we should learn how to respond to it.  God’s people should respond to depravity with moral purity instead of moral abandonment.  Such a response is so important because divine blessing or cursing lay in the balance.
