God's Response to Wickedness

Passage: Genesis 6:1-8 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Beginning - Genesis 1-12

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - This morning, we are jumping back into our series through the first twelve chapters of Genesis. Adam and Eve had many children (Gen. 5:4), and after centuries passed by, their descendants were numerous (Gen. 6:1). But most of them resembled the heirs of Cain in their sin and deep depravity. The only spark of hope was the remnant of Seth’s line that remained in a man named Noah and his family. Amidst the world’s population, he alone “walked with God.” The passage under consideration this morning portrays how wicked the human race had become, and indicates that death would be the punishment. It is a continuation of the toledot which began in (Gen. 5:1). What would God do with the crisis of rampant sin on earth? How would human degeneration and depravity fare in the presence of God’s judgment? And what about grace? (Romans 5:20) “Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more!”
