Come Thirsty. Seek the Lord.

Passage: Isaiah 55:6-9 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Come Thirsty

Length: 47 mins Plays: 2912

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - There is an ancient tale from India about a young man who wanted to seek God.  He went to a wise old sage for help and asked, “How do I find God?”  The old man took him to a nearby river and the two of them waded into the deep water.  Soon the water was up just under their chins, and without warning the old man suddenly seized the young man by the neck and pushed him under the water.  He held the young man down until he was flailing in desperation.  Another minute and he may have drowned.  Up and out of the water the two of them came.  The young man was coughing fluid from his lungs and gasping for air.  Upon reaching the bank he asked the old sage indignantly, “What did that have to do with finding God?”  The old man quietly replied, “While you were under the water, what did you want more than anything else?”  The young man thought for a minute and then answered, “I wanted air. I wanted air more than anything else.”  The old man replied, “When you want God as much as you wanted air, you will find him.”[1] Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you declares the Lord…”  This morning we will look at Isaiah 55:6-9, and discover what it means to seek the Lord, and why we must do so today. God is not hiding from us this morning.  In fact, he wants to be found!  In Isaiah 65:1-2 the Lord says, “I will surely let myself be sought by those who did not ask, let myself be found by those who did not seek.  I am determined to say ‘Behold me! Behold me!”  God stands in plain view for all who will seek him.   Will you seek the Lord today? Will you call upon him while he is near?
