Passage: Matthew 5:10-12 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Beatus - Favored by God

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Matthew 5:10-12 records the final beatitude. It presents the “blessing” that no one wants. It says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted…” Now, when we start talking about persecution, people don’t often line up to hear about it. Perhaps they’d rather just skip that topic and move on to something more uplifting or pertinent. Maybe the whole discussion of pain and death is not their cup of tea. But we can’t simply pass over this final blessing. It’s the last beatitude, the longest beatitude, and it is the only beatitude repeated by Jesus. The bible says in many different passages, that true disciples of Jesus will be persecuted. The question we must face this morning is, “Are we prepared for persecution? When the times comes will we be able to rejoice and be glad?” May the Lord teach us through his Word.
